‘Smiles are the Greatest Reward’
Lead Support Worker Darren from our Belmont Neighbourhood used to be an English teacher but took a leap into the Disability Sector 5 years ago. The pandemic was a bit of a push to switch professions, but he is now so glad that he did.
He finds immense fulfillment in his support work, where the smiles he receives are the greatest reward. The incredible people at Interchange bring him joy and make him love what he does every day.
Respect is his most cherished value at Interchange. “It is the foundation of any relationship”, he says. He firmly believes in the saying,
You don’t know someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes,
finding it to be profoundly true. His beautiful wife is his unwavering support, and his family means everything to him. With nine incredible grandchildren, his life might be busy but is filled with joy and love.
My family is always there for me when I need them.
Darren lives by the motto “Que sera, sera.” He enjoys playing games and taking walks with his dog. History has always fascinated him, and he therefore loves to read up on all things from the past. He has spent most of his life in Perth, with the exception of a few years when he ventured abroad to explore life in Canada.
