‘Disability is not Inability!’
For over four years Geoffrey has been part of the Interchange team. He gained a wealth of knowledge in supporting people with complex needs in his time as a Support Worker. He finds his role utterly rewarding, feels a sense of belonging with his team and is proud of his accomplishments.
Geoffrey’s passion for helping people with disability started several years ago when his close relative was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Geoffrey made it a commitment to always be there for him. He would be available to call him at any time – night or day – and offered him a safe space to share his vulnerable and confronting feelings and emotions.
When he arrived in Perth and heard about Interchange’s mission, he knew that that would be a great fit for him.
I find fulfilment by helping people with special needs achieve their goals, especially when they overcome an obstacle blocking their means to enjoy life.
Geoffrey’s commitment to growth and improvement is truly commendable! Even on challenging days, his determination to strive for betterment sets a positive example. Afterall, he cherishes his life motto: ‘Good habits create a ripple effect through life.’
When Geoffrey isn’t supporting people with disability to achieve their goals, he embraces his role as a father. He also loves to explore his community; he offers soccer training for kids and even partakes in a monthly hiking group. Staying active and maintaining social connections is essential to him.
Something you might not have known about Geoffrey is that he has a fishpond at home with several species. He finds it calming but also rewarding to see growth in something you invest your time in.
