William has an acquired brain injury, but he never lets this get him down. He loves meeting new friends and exploring new opportunities through family networks.

William attends an integrated music group every Monday at the Swan Recreation centre, and has developed a new interest in live music.

One of Williams goals is to rediscover his indigenous heritage and become more independent in accessing his local community.

William is also a Dockers fan, so he was keen to plan an excursion into Fremantle to see his favourite football team train and explore the coffee shops and sights of the vibrant Port City.

William meeting a busker in FremantleWe set out early to enjoy a full day of activities that would help William achieve his social inclusion, budgeting and independence goals. William signalled that he wanted to visit two local museums, including the Aboriginal Art Gallery which he had never seen.

The next stop was a trendy cafe, Fremantle Oval, and then the Dockers home ground. William smiled as he saw the lush, green oval that the Dockers were already practising on. Then his face lit up with excitement as the whole team wandered over to the say hello!

Later that day, William stopped to watch a street performer and threw him some coins. This sparked a spontaneous conversation where we quickly learned that the busker was from Williams own mob in Mount Barker! Another family contact to catch up on!

William finished off the day by buying a dream catcher at the local markets, which he had been saving for. He said he was going to hang it on his wheelchair to remind him of all the good things he could achieve by himself, with just a little bit of help.

Later that week, William checked his mailbox and found complimentary tickets to the next Dockers football match. He is now planning a second trip to Fremantle to thank his new mates!
