Everyone – meet our AWESOME Team Leader/Coordinator Nicole Harris.
With a coffee in her hand and in company of her wonderful dog Holly, is how you could very likely run into Nicole. Family, friends and Holly are closest to her heart and she really enjoys their company, some great 80’s music, painting, and photography, as well as good food and wine.
She can also not wait to travel again, with her husband and is itching to get onto a plane soon.
The suggestion to look into working in the disability sector came when Nicole was employed in childcare and was looking after a young boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 15 years later and having worked as a Support Worker, Support Service Officer and the recent six years as Team Leader/Coordinator, she can bring an astonishing amount of experience to the table.
We wanted to know why Nicole enjoys working with Interchange and she mentioned:
Interchange’s values resonate with me – the simple line of ‘Everyone Belongs’ in particular relates to how I live my life.”
Nicole finds it incredibly rewarding, being the advocate for the people who are not always heard in todays society. She feels as people with disability, should not only have an accessible community but a community, they can actively participate in. Everyone Belongs.
She would like to encourage all to simply smile and say hello to people with disability, as they tend to feel overlooked and a simple way to make them feel included, is to treat them like everyone else. Because it should be simple to ‘Be Kind’, which is Nicole’s life motto, and we need more people to live by it.
Any good news will inspire Nicole and cast a smile onto her face. An animal being rescued or someone who achieved a life goal.
