Empowering others, bringing out the best in the people I support and seeing them grow and realise the potential they have is what I love the most about being a Support Worker.

Hi – my name is Steven, or you can call me ‘Steve’. My team would describe me as a patient, understanding, and kind-hearted person.

I have been an Interchanger for the past 2.5 years and I truly enjoy the supportive atmosphere and the amazing people I get to work with.

I fully understand the importance of having patience in my line of work as everyone is different and learns at a different pace. I utilise fun activities that help each of my customers work towards achieving their goals. I purposefully choose ways that are filled with memorable moments of joy, fun and laughter. I believe it’s these moments that make life worth living and I have this mindset with every person I work with.

In my free time, I enjoy working out at the gym and I always encourage my customers to incorporate fitness and healthy ways of eating into their lives as it has so many benefits physically but also mentally. But don’t get me wrong, I am not only about the body active world I also am an avid video gamer, and love having a chat about what’s going on in the video gaming world – latest consoles, games and news.

Something else I find joy in is visiting and exploring new places. Finding unique and interesting activities to do are like little treasures and I love sharing these experiences with my customers. Sometimes this may start a spark in them and me sharing my enthusiasm with the people I support can make them discover new aspects, traits and strengths about themselves they may not have previously known about. It can also help some establish new hobbies or perhaps find opportunities for employment of their choice.

When the people I support realise their own potential or embark on a journey of self-discovery, to learn all about what the world has to offer, is a something making me incredibly proud to witness.
