When Liam’s mother moved into aged care, his world shifted dramatically. For years, she had been his anchor, helping him navigate daily life. Suddenly, Liam found himself alone, facing the daunting task of supporting himself for the first time.
When his NDIS plan began in July 2025, things were far from easy and piling up. He often struggled with daily routines and tasks. That’s when Interchange WA and Support Worker Steven, stepped in.
Together, they began building routines and skills that would empower Liam to live independently. Steven helped Liam shop for a full week’s worth of clothes, giving him the confidence to feel comfortable and presentable. They tackled the kitchen next, cleaning out the fridge and pantry, and teaching Liam how to plan meals.
Now, Liam checks his pantry and fridge before creating a shopping list on his phone. He shops independently, prepares meals with care, and stores them in color-coded containers to keep track of freshness. He has learned to rotate stock, transfer meals from freezer to fridge the night before, and wash containers in preparation for his weekly Thursday cooking sessions.
Laundry is no longer a challenge. Every Sunday, Liam washes his clothes and rotates his bedding, keeping his home clean and organised.
Recently, Liam proudly hosted his mother for a meal, serving his homemade satay chicken. It was a moment of joy and pride and a symbol of how far he has come.
Liam’s journey is a testament to what the right support can achieve. With Liam’s Support Team’s guidance and his own determination, Liam is not just surviving, he is thriving.
