The Supporter Behind The Screen: Meet Pia
Pia is the Communications & Engagement Officer at Interchange WA. For five years she has served as a writer, editor and curator for every piece of content that has passed through the Interchange blog, social media, and newsletters.
She recently gone on maternity leave, but right before she left, she won an iThink You Are Awesome award. So, let’s take a moment to celebrate her accomplishments.
Despite working in head office, Pia carries an admirable commitment to supporting people with disability. Whenever she reaches out to the People of Interchange WA for stories, or when she puts pen to paper on a new development in our customer’s lives, it ignites a passion to represent them truthfully and celebrate their accomplishments.
I kind of see myself as the voice of the people we support.”
And it’s true. The people we support can speak for themselves, but everybody can use a megaphone to amplify their message. That’s why Pia is perhaps the most visible member of the Interchange team, even if you never truly see her. She shares all of Interchange’s values with every one of our customers, employees, and stakeholders, but the one she holds closest to her own heart is Belonging.
She says that a sense of belonging is the secret to enjoying work, and we couldn’t agree more. Our motto of Everyone Belongs really does mean everyone, whether they’re receiving our services, delivering them, working in our offices, or simply a member of the community; we’re all entitled to a sense of belonging and happiness together. When Pia isn’t with us, she’s finding that same belonging with her family. She says her goal in life is to create health and happiness for her family, and as a proud mother of two with a third on the way, she’s definitely on track to achieve it.
Thank you for all your work, Pia. We think you are awesome and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
