Leading with Compassion and Purpose: Meet Rachael    

Rachael, Team Leader at Interchange WA’s Diversity South Neighbourhood, brings warmth, wisdom, and dedication to her role. In only a year and a half, she has become a guiding force, mentoring staff, advocating for people with disability, and helping create a culture of care and empowerment. 

One of Rachael’s proudest achievements is working alongside Behaviour Support Practitioners to reduce and remove Restrictive Practices. She mentors her team to understand the purpose and necessity of these practices, always questioning whether they are truly needed. The removal of several Restrictive Practices has led to more freedom and dignity for the people Interchange WA supports. What a powerful outcome, Rachael celebrates! 

Rachael finds inspiration not only in the people she supports but also in her colleagues. She speaks with pride about her team members, one in particular who began as a student and has grown into a fantastic Senior Support Worker. The person-centred approach she sees in her team reflect the values Rachael holds dear.

What motivates Rachael is simple though meaningful; ‘the desire to mentor her team to provide the highest level of care’. She wants every participant to feel a deep sense of belonging and to be supported in living their best life, through activities, therapies, and meaningful engagement. 

Among Interchange WA’s core values, Belonging and Empowerment resonate most with Rachael. She believes that emotional connection and acceptance are essential, and that learning and advocacy empower people to thrive. 

Outside of work, Rachael is a proud mum to one son and three beloved dogs. She enjoys the coastal beauty of her home, loves to doodle and renovate, and cherishes family as well as holidays where she cruises around Western Australia. 

Rachael describes working in the disability sector as deeply meaningful and fulfilling. Watching people grow, achieve new things, and take pride in their progress brings her joy every day. 

Being an Interchanger to help people grow is an honour.” 

Her goal in life is to provide the best care to those she supports and to treasure every moment with her family. Rachael’s life is a beautiful blend of compassion, leadership, and love and we are grateful to have her as part of team Interchange WA.
