What is an NDIS Service Provider?

An NDIS service provider is a person, business, or organisation that delivers NDIS-funded services to people with disability.

Choosing the right provider is crucial to ensure your needs are met. Providers registered with the NDIS are called NDIS Registered Providers. They meet strict government quality and safety standards. Learn more about how to find a registered provider here.

How to Change Your NDIS Service Provider

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was introduced to help people with disability access essential services and supports. With over 1,000 registered NDIS providers in WA, you have many choices. But what happens if your needs change and you want to switch providers?

Changing providers can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to remember that your NDIS plan is designed to support you and help you achieve your goals.

There are many reasons why you might want to change service providers:

  • Your goals or support needs have changed.
  • You’re moving to a new location.
  • You’re unhappy with your current provider’s services.
  • You want to explore different support options.

Know Your Rights as an NDIS Participant

As an NDIS participant, you have the right to change service providers at any time. You do not have to disclose your reason for switching. You are in control and can choose the services and supports that best meet your needs.

To make the process easier, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change NDIS service providers smoothly. But change can be difficult and being informed can help you with the process. So, let’s get into it.

Changing Providers Step by Step

Step 1: End Your Current Service Agreement

Before switching to a new provider, you need to terminate your agreement with your current provider. It’s best to do this in writing (via email) so you have a record of your request and the date it was made.

Check the terms of your Service Agreement, as some providers require a notice period before termination takes effect. When requesting to end your agreement, ask for a written acknowledgment of your request.

Step 2: Check ‘MyPlace’ for Agency-Managed Funds

If your NDIS funding is agency-managed, your current provider must end their service bookings in the MyPlace portal. This process usually takes 14 days from the date they submit the request.

To ensure a smooth transition, check the portal after 14 days to confirm the service booking has been cancelled. If it hasn’t, contact the NDIA to request termination.

Step 3: Sign Up with Your New Provider

Once your previous provider’s agreement has ended, you can start services with your new provider.

Each provider may have a slightly different onboarding process, but they will guide you through the steps. If Interchange is your new provider—welcome! We can help you transition smoothly with our Service Entry and Exit Policy.
